It is applicable to a wide variety of areas, such as industry, economy, health science and environment. Statistical methods and models can be used to summarize and describe a collection of data.

Data analysis, the process of looking at and summarizing data with the intent to extract relevant information and develop conclusions. Depending on the situation, data analysis can have different meanings: (1) Data Mining in case of large dataset. (2) Exploratory Data Analysis when the goal is to discover new features. (3) Confirmatory Data Analysis when the goal is to confirm or to false existing hypotheses.

Data management, the work that involves the planning, development, implementation and administration of systems for the acquisition, storage and retrieval of data.
